MPNA - No July Meeting

There will be no monthly meeting in July.

MPNA recently submitted a petition to the City of Houston requesting the Civility Ordinance be implemented within the Museum Park Neighborhood. The petition effort spearheaded by Bill Powell, Mike Woods, along with MPSN President Kathleen O'Reilly contains signatures from property owners representing 20% of the total designated area and includes signatures of at least 100 property owners.

Created in 2002, Houston's civility ordinance prevents an individual from sitting, sleeping, or laying their possessions on city sidewalks between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. The ordinance does not apply in specific situations: those who are sitting or lying on a city sidewalk in an emergency, those who are sitting on a city chair or bench, or on a chair owned by someone on an adjacent private property, and those lawfully participating in a festivity or demonstration on a public sidewalk will not be punished.

Those in violation of the ordinance can be ticketed.  In 2022, 264 individuals received tickets.

MPNA's petition will be presented to City Council once the Planning Department has verified the requisite signatures.

Riverside Terrace recently petitioned and received approval for the ordinance to be implemented in their neighborhood.

Please join us for our next meeting on Wednesday, August 7.
